Kenya Surgical Trip June

Since 2016 AdventHealth Shawnee Mission has been committed to medical missions traveling to two communities in Peru. In 2024 Kenya was added to this list!  With a mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ, AdventHealth is committed, company-wide, to medical missions globally. Your support will ensure that members from AdventHealth can support the medical needs of those in Kenya.

In February 2024, AdventHealth took its first clinical team to Kenya. During their visit, the team served 2,800 patients, distributed 1,300 pairs of glasses, performed over 50 surgical procedures and collaborated closely with local partners. The team also spent time educating the community on health practices so that they could sustain the same quality of care provided by the clinical team during their stay.  

Established in 1925 by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Kendu Adventist Hospital, located in Homa Bay County on the eastern part of Lake Victoria, has 170 beds and offers preventive care and diagnostic, curative and rehabilitative services for its patients. In recent years, Kendu Adventist Hospital has undergone significant growth, extending its reach to include a School of Medical Sciences, an elementary school and a Comprehensive Care Center, in addition to its existing hospital facilities. This institution’s foundation lies in its commitment to serving others with dedication, empathy and a genuine desire to make a positive impact.

As we prepare to make a meaningful impact, we’re actively recruiting volunteers to fill crucial roles on surgical teams. We need surgeons, anesthesiologists, OR nurses, providers, RN’s, pharmacists, and ultrasound techs. If you’re passionate about serving others, there’s a place for you on this life-changing journey. Join us in delivering hope and healing—your time and talent will make all the difference. Team members of AdventHealth Mid-America Region (AHMAR) receive A $1,000 SCHOLARSHIP from the endowment fund that reduces their total cost for the trip.  A limited number of FULL scholarships are also available for attendees. Provider applicants should ensure they have the following items ready before beginning the application process:

• Passport details and a passport photo
• Professional license type and license number
• A copy of your diploma (required for MD, DO, APRN, PA, Pharmacist, and RN)
• A copy of your CV
• A copy of your Medical Board Certification (if applicable)
